In situations where you want to be able to check a hard drive but can't boot to Windows, WD used to provide an ISO for a bootable CD that included its DLG for DOS diagnostic. Some time ago, WD removed the ISO and now only provides DLG for DOS as a zip file () that must be copied to a bootable floppy disk -- but who has floppy drives anymore! Although there are a bunch of bootable CD ISOs on the Internet, and some even are modifiable to let you add your own utilities (like DLGDIAG), all of them that I've been able to find use OAKCDROM.SYS as the driver for the CDROM device. Although the disks boot up OK, that driver doesn't recognize a CDROM connected via SATA. So the DLGDIAG utility isn't usable. Can anyone tell me how to build a bootable CD that will (1) allow me to copy DLGDIAG.EXE into the ISO and (2) will recognize a SATA-connected CD or DVD drive after bootup so that DLGDIAG can be run? If the above ideas are impossible, what do people suggest for diagnosing WD hard drive problems when the system won't boot into Windows?

Mandriva 2010 Spring Powerpack (64 Bit) 2010 Pc Iso. I was able to use a Rufus created bootable USB stick in the past. However now with a windows 7 machine and 12 GB RAM I get an A20 error on boot with both Hirens and other DOS launchers.
The solution is to download the windows WAIK Kit and create a basic x86 WinPE boot CD. At this time the latest Windows version of the WD utility is WinDlg_v1_28.zip (as of 8-11-2015). Install the utility on windows - It will be installed in Program Files (Program Files x86 for 64 bit Windows 7). Copy all the files in c: Program Files Western Digital Corporation Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows to a USB stick. Search and find one more file to add to the stick - oledlg.dll Now boot the WinPE CD and when you get a command prompt insert the USB stick (it may take a bit of trail and error to find what drive letter was assigned). Switch to the USB stick. Now you can launch the windows version of WD Diagnostics (WinDlg.exe) and run the utility.
