The perpetrators used a method called 'social engineering,' and managed to convince a Microsoft customer service rep that they were the rightful owner of Tung's gamertag. Some of you are probably already (and unfortunately) familiar with this type of attack, but for those of you who aren't here's an article on MTV News with a few tips towards the end to help prevent this same thing happening to you. This is hardly a comprehensive list, so I've made a few more tips as well. Tip #1 Use different passwords for every online account you have. That means a different password for your email account, bank account, PayPal, eBay, etc. If this sounds like too much to remember, download a free application such as KeePass to manage your passwords.

This might not prevent someone from ripping off your gamertag, but it will help to ensure that that's all they compromise. Tip #2 Don't act like a paranoid cat-lady, but be aware: is the guy you're fighting in Soul Calibur asking a little too much about your personal life? 'Hey, where do you live?' Seems innocent enough, and in most cases it probably is, but if you don't know the person then don't get into specifics.

If you find a site saying it'll give you free Microsoft points or add a year of gold to your account for free, and all you have to do is put in your live ID and password, DONT DO IT! All your doing is giving the jacker a list of emails and passwords of accounts for him to steal. Anyway, every step he listed is great. But it doesnt 100% prevent your account getting jacked.
